The horses begin training very young. After six years of training, the breed, which was developed exclusively for the Hapsburg Monarchy, don't begin performing until they are 10, and many of the horses perform well into their 20s, according to Viking Cruises.
This stunning breed's roots date back to the Renaissance when the Hapsburg family ruled in Spain and Austria. The breed developed as s cross between the Spanish horse and Arab Stallions, according to the Lipizzan Association of North America.
