Young girl grabs the saddle before springing into delightfully playful vaulting performance

Vaulting is a specialized area of horse performance that combines theater, exceptional riding, and a trusting relationship between the vaulter and her horse. In the video provided by FEI, we have the opportunity to see three of the best vaulters in action at the CVI Ermelo 2016. Among the performers is Janika Derks, a world renowned German vaulting athlete.
During her performance, we can clearly see the amount of strength, balance, and impeccable timing that this sport takes. Without a moment of hesitation Derks moves along side the horse, hoists herself up, and does various movements all as the horse keeps perfect pace. Absolutely amazing!

According to FEI, successful vaulting depends largely on the ability for the horse and the vaulter to work together. There takes a level of skill and athleticism from both participants. Today, various competitions are held including FEI World Equestrian Games™, the FEI World Cup™ Vaulting series and continental Championships.
