Bear roughhouses with a hay bale

In the winter of 2000, Hugo, a female Grizzly, was discovered with porcupine quills in her paws. She was dehydrated and malnourished, a far cry from the healthy, playful bear featured in the video below. The Alaskan Wildlife Conservation Center aided in her recovery. She now lives at the conservation center because she is unable to live on her own.
Watch below as Hugo discovers a bale of hay and playfully tosses it around. She rolls, tackles and slides across the wintery ground with hay in hand. Keep an eye out for the bear's entertaining gymnastic skills too!

Giant Grizzly bears hardly evoke the image of a playful animal. The Grizzly Bear can weigh up to 850 pounds and run at speeds of up to 35 mph, according to Defenders of Wildlife. While this bear is usually portrayed as terrifying predators, the bears are smart, curious and cautious. In fact, Western Wildlife reports that these bears will alter their habits to stay away from humans.
Western Wildlife reports that a Grizzly bear's diet consists mostly of grass, roots, fungi and berries. About 10 percent of their diet is meat and fish.
