Couple starts filming as soon as black bear in their yard reaches for the bird feeder

Bears get bored of the same food just like we do. So when a rebellious teenage bear went looking for an adventure, he decided to snack on an unsuspecting Virginia couple's bird feeder.
According to Richmond's local news station WTVR, Joan Stimeare Bowles and her husband caught the 100-pound black bear pulling at the bird feeder installed in their backyard.

"My husband spotted it first and called me to come look at what was in our yard. He sounded panicked. He was getting ready to let our chihuahua out when he saw the cat drawn back and looking strange," Bowles said. Bowles then pulled out her phone and started recording the bear at a safe distance. When officers came along, the bear scurried away into the woods.
The footage shows the bear fishing out birdseed and nibbling it off the ground. In the background, you can hear Bowles uttering her disbelief at what's happening and her husband calmly contacting 911. The bear continues to enjoy his feast.
According to Maymont, the area's nature conservatory and park, black bears are native to Virginia and are opportunistic feeders, so a bear using a bird feeder as its own personal buffet isn't unusual. Bowles' actions demonstrate exactly what you should do if a bear (no matter how cute) wanders into your yard. Leaving a bear to its feast is always the best idea until a professional can gently guide the creature away.
