The cameras were set up originally for landowners to be able to view their property in the Berkshires, which is in Western Massachusetts, and the photo was retrieved by land trustees. The unexpected bear selfie was just the icing on the cake.
According to the Massachusetts government website, bears in Massachusetts come out to play during the day in the spring and fall, but prefer the evening in the summer. It’s great that we can see these bears in daylight! The website also reveals that female bears like this one can weigh as much as 400 pounds.
This selfie is the next best thing to seeing a bear up close and in person. With female black bears being extremely protective of their cubs, it sure is nice to be able to see one like this without the danger. If you love bears, or even if you are just a little curious about them, then you simply must see this video! SHARE if you’re a fan of bear selfies!
