Horse's beautiful coat and flowing mane make him a true stunner

Have you ever seen a horse as beautiful as the stallion in this video? The stallion, named Austin, is a Gypsy vanner. You'll notice that Austin has stunningly good looks, is mild-mannered and, of course, has tons of hair. Just take a look at his mane, tail and the feathers around his lower legs.
Gypsy vanners have grown in popularity during the past two decades. According to the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society, these beautiful horses are the size of small draft horses, and they're known for their willingness and gentle nature. Many of these horses have pinto coat patterns, adding to their striking appearance. And, of course, they have long manes and tails and excessive feathering on the lower legs.
The Gypsy vanner originated with the Gypsies of Great Britain. After World War II, the Gypsies set out to create a small draft horse appropriate for pulling caravans. They sought more color than the average draft horse and bred for a horse that would have lots of feathering. And so the Gypsy vanner was created.
But the breed wasn't recognized as an official breed for decades. In fact, it wasn't until the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society was formed in 1996 that this breed became truly recognized. Today, the Gypsy vanner is a popular breed, for both under saddle and driving. You'll see Gypsies in shows, but they're also favored as everyday riding horses, thanks to their laid-back nature.
If you're looking for a Gypsy vanner for yourself, it's best to find a reputable breeder in your area. Because this is a relatively new breed, it may take a little leg work to find the right horse for you. Depending on where you're located in the country, you may need to travel to look at available Gypsy vanners for sale.
One thing's for sure: The Gypsy vanner is a unique, striking breed. We can't wait to see what's in store for this breed as its popularity continues to grow.

You don't have to be horse-obsessed to appreciate silly horse behavior -- such behaviors are delightful clues to the unique personality behind each of these gentle giants.
